Going for a Mat Ride
PEMF Getting Started Basics
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me, little girl
On a magic carpet ride.
― John Kay (Lead Singer of Steppenwolf)
Back in the early days of demonstrating full-body PEMF therapy to hundreds of people, we would introduce the experience as "going for a mat ride" or even a "magic carpet ride" to make the whole experience more fun. Calling a full-body mat session a "ride" was apt because we felt that people using PEMF were on the "road to health", as I have seen PEMF change and even save many lives. My daily "mat rides" are something I look forward to because PEMF is very relaxing, and I feel like I am recharging all my batteries (we have 30-40 trillion wet cell batteries). Personally, I look forward to the benefits that follow, which for me typically include more energy and better mental focus during the day, improved athletic performance while playing pickleball, recovery and pain relief as needed, and better sleep at night. As you start to feel the amazing benefits of PEMF, you'll also begin to really look forward to your daily PEMF mat ride!
Now that we have explored the key features to look for in a PEMF, specifically a high-slew-rate full-body mat device with large coils, local applicators, and high-quality engineering, along with how PEMF helps with pain, inflammation, and healing, this chapter is dedicated to maximizing the benefits of your PEMF "mat rides" to achieve results as quickly as possible. I really want to help bring you "up to speed" so you can experience the incredible benefits of PEMF that I experience daily! In this chapter, I will assume you have a good high-slew-rate, full-body mat PEMF device, which is the only type of PEMF device I now affiliate with and recommend. If you don't have a PEMF device yet, you can continue reading, but be sure to come back and re-read this chapter once you have one. Also, these protocols are NOT designed for high-intensity PEMF; they are only for low- and medium-intensity devices under 10 mT or 100 gauss.
Every "body" is different, so these are just overarching strategies and tips I have found helpful in my 18 years of working with over 4,000 people with PEMF. While results can come fast, some conditions do take time, so in this chapter, we'll also go over how you can manage your expectations and not give up when results could be around the corner. We'll also troubleshoot common reasons people think PEMF isn't working and what you can do about them. Additionally, I will share other natural healing tips that you can utilize to enhance the benefits of PEMF therapy. One of the most exciting applications is using your PEMF device to create magnetized water, which works synergistically with your PEMF sessions. We'll see good PEMF therapy devices work wonderfully for structuring, energizing, and lowering the surface tension of water[1].

First Steps - Learn the System & Set Up Properly
The first steps in getting the most out of your daily mat ride (plus localized application as needed) are to first learn how to use the PEMF system you purchased. The protocols I am sharing only work if you know how to implement them. Most PEMF companies offer a getting-started video or manual, as well as customer service personnel available to provide assistance.
If you get a medium-intensity/high slew-rate, pulse-driven system, like I now recommend, operating it will be easy. Really, all you need to know is how to set the time, intensity, and frequency. As we'll see soon, the goal is to achieve the system's maximum slew rate for 30 minutes 2x a day (if possible).
Also, you want to know how to program the repetition rate. For good high-slew-rate pulse-driven systems, the frequency is mainly for brain entrainment, so you'll want to use energizing frequencies in the morning/day like 15-23 Hz, and low frequencies like 1-7 Hz at night for sleep. A good balancing frequency is the popular 10 Hz.
Then you'll need to know how to adjust the time. Good PEMF systems let you go from 1 minute to an hour or more. As we'll see, we recommend 30 minutes on the full-body mat and at least that much on the local applicators, as needed. Some PEMF systems have fast-start programs, too, so familiarize yourself with what those programs entail (time, intensity, and frequency).

After you are familiar with how to use the system, find a good location in your house to set yourself up for success. Most PEMF devices are lightweight enough to move around or store after a session if space is limited. Personally, I have one main location in my living room area where I use my full body, so it is always set up and ready for use. I do my daily mat rides there so I can watch a movie, read a book, or listen to music (or sometimes take a nap), to pass the time more easily.
Next, it is important to assess how flexible the full body mat is. Some full-body mats require you to lie them on a firm, flat surface, such as a massage table, a firm bed, or the floor. The device I recommend as my top choice has enough flexibility to be able to put it on any flat surface, including softer beds and couches (and some lounge chairs). Still try to get on the mat gently to preserve mat longevity. For example, you can get on the mat butt-first, not with a sharp elbow or knee, to avoid undue pressure on a coil. The nice thing about most localized applicators is that you can use them in any position, including while you are on the computer or sitting and doing other things. But the full-body mats take a little planning to find the best spot to maximize your use of them daily. Massage tables are inexpensive (the ones I have are all around $100 and work just fine).
Other Important Tips
Also important is to ideally keep the mat unit at least 3 feet away from all other electrical devices and motors (cell phones, tablets, computers, TVs, etc.). Otherwise, they will mess with your body's energy field. If you live in an area with frequent lightning, like Florida, also consider investing in a surge protector to protect your unit. BLANKETS and pillows are ok to make your session warmer and comfortable. While pillows are ok, keep in mind that PEMF intensity/slew rate decreases with distance, so if you use pillows, make sure they are as flat as possible. Remember the body is transparent to magnetic fields, and so are just about all materials with the exception of excessive amounts of metal. Because of this, do not put your PEMF mat on a metallic surface. Also, you want to empty your pockets before a full-body mat ride, including keys, coins, flash drives, and your wallet, as higher intensities can erase data or damage credit cards. Remove eyeglasses and large metal jewelry, as metal slightly interferes with PEMF energy -- small amounts of metal, like zippers, wedding rings, and normal-sized belt buckles, are OK.
Checklist on First Steps Before Going on Your First PEMF "Mat Ride"
1) Make sure to get a good full body mat with a high-slew-rate, large coils and good local applicators.
2) Learn how to adjust the intensity[1].
3) Learn how to change the frequency so it is the appropriate frequency for the time of day (to match circadian/brain state rhythms).
4) Learn how to adjust the time of the session.
5) Familiarize yourself with the fast start programs of the system.
6) Familiarize yourself with local applicators and how to apply them optimally.
7) Find a good location in your house to set up the full body mat. Make it easy to watch TV, nap, read a book, listen to an audiobook, or listen to music.
8) Find the right furniture to set up your full body mat. For most people, it is beds, massage tables, couches, and some lounge chairs.
9) Get on the mat gently to preserve mat longevity.
10) Consider getting a surge protector.
11) Blankets and pillows ok to make it comfortable.
12) Empty pockets before getting on.
[1] In this getting started guide, we are going to assume you got a good high-slew-rate PEMF system. Because any given PEMF system has the same rise time, the slew rate is going to be tied to the intensity. So for simplicity, we are only going to focus on intensity settings, but keep in mind the intensity on a PEMF device is also adjusting the slew rate.

PEMF Mat Ride Protocols to Put You on the Road to Healing!
Once you know how to use your device and have everything set up, let's go over protocols to get the most out of each of your PEMF mat rides and local applicator sessions. First, check with your doctor before using PEMF, and be clear on the main issues you want to address. Sometimes pain can be referred pain, like sciatica/leg pain and neck/shoulder pain. Also, sometimes pain like appendicitis can be serious and require immediate medical attention, so remember PEMF therapy does not take the place of medical care. Next, check with the contraindications and precautions in Appendix C to see if what you are dealing with is on the list. If you have a contraindicated condition, like, say, an organ transplant, do not use PEMF therapy. The precautions list you can use PEMF, but you should proceed cautiously and ask your doctor if PEMF therapy is ok for you.
1) Going for a Full Body "Mat Ride": There are many reasons why you want to get a good full-body mat PEMF device with large coils instead of small local applicator devices only. First, using a full-body mat daily eliminates the guesswork about where to apply PEMF therapy. It ensures all your bases are covered! Also, and perhaps most importantly, full-body PEMF opens all the body's fractal trees (circulatory, lymphatic, nervous, tracheobronchial, and your meridians). This results in improved blood and lymphatic circulation, increased airflow in the lungs, better nerve flow, and creates a smooth flow of energy in the 12 primary acupuncture meridians. Additionally, you are recharging and re-energizing all 30-40 trillion cells in the body all at once! The quality of your health depends on the quality of the health of ALL your cells!
The first step on the road to health with PEMF therapy is doing 1-2 daily full-body PEMF mat rides, ideally for 30 minutes, as we'll see why. I cannot emphasize enough how much your life will change by doing this and sticking with it. These daily mat rides, in my opinion, are the foundation of PEMF therapy. Yes, you want to add local applicators, which we will discuss next, but everyone, both sick and healthy, should do full body mat PEMF daily for the rest of their lives!
For healthy people, PEMF is the ultimate preventive measure, strengthening and making your body more resilient, like "shields up" in Star Trek. By going for a daily mat ride, you'll feel more energetic, perform better athletically, sleep better, experience better mental focus, and, overall, feel more relaxed and less stressed. If you are sick, in pain, or have any health challenge, doing a full-body PEMF daily will be one of the best investments you can make on the road to healing!

The 1-2 Punch to Knock Out Pain and Disease: The best 1-2 punch in all of energy medicine and natural healing in general is combining a full body "mat ride" followed by a PEMF localized applicator. Hopefully, you got a good full-body mat with effective local applicators. It is ideal to use the full-body mat before using the local applicators, but it is not essential. Most people who purchase a PEMF device have some kind of localized pain or issue, like, say, low back pain. It is important to understand that 30 minutes on the full-body mat alone doesn't always help with local issues (injury, pain, or trouble spot), although it can if given enough time, days, or the right person. Local issues are best handled by local applicators in addition to daily full-body mat rides.
Success on localized issues usually depends on sufficient time! When working on local issues, set aside at least 30 minutes to yield good results. There is no time limit on how long you can run localized issues. After a recent car accident where I badly injured my hand, I was doing my daily 30-minute PEMF mat rides, plus I was adding localized applicators for 5-6 hours a day on my injured hand for the first few days, until things started to improve. I even slept with these localized applicators over my hand. I have seen some real magic happen with myself and others using high-slew-rate PEMF localized application for long periods of time, AS NEEDED. There really is no time limit if you are in pain, but listen to your body! For example, I sometimes get shoulder and elbow pain from playing too much pickleball. When that happens, after my full body mat session, I use the localized applicator loops on my elbow or shoulder (in this example) as long as needed while reading a book or watching TV (or even sleeping). I do it until the pain subsides, and if the pain comes back, I do it again as long as necessary. So really, you don't need a set protocol with the localized applicators if you listen to your body.
While you can create a healing crisis by taking a full-body "mat ride" that's too long, because you are opening things up across the entire body, this is usually not a problem with local applicators because you are only treating one small area. While you always want to listen to your body, I have found most people with acute localized pain and issues can do the local applicators as long as necessary (up to several hours a day) with no issue! Now with the full-body mat, I would not do more than 30 minutes 2x a day, though you can try more. This brings us to finding the right time and intensity on the full-body mat.
3) Time and Intensity for each Session (if in doubt, start low and slow): Now that we understand to use the full body mat first, followed by the local applicators, next we need to determine what intensity to use (which is tied to the slew rate), and how long to do each session. With the medium-intensity, high-slew-rate pulse-driven systems I recommend, the main parameters to adjust are intensity and time.
When I bought my first Porsche many years ago, I remember asking the salesman if I needed to break the car in and drive it gently for the first few months or thousand miles. I remember him telling me with a smile, "Drive it like you stole it". Unfortunately, this does not apply to PEMF much of the time, where going too hard and too fast can create problems. Many people who buy PEMF devices are sick, in pain, and elderly, so my advice is more like start off gently and let your body get "broken in" slowly to PEMF. This is what is called a low and slow approach, which is the best way to begin with PEMF therapy if you are in doubt. But of course, you can go faster out of the gates if you are healthy, athletic, and younger. Overall, I would say there are five main approaches to PEMF session time and intensity:
1) Low and Slow (Older, weaker, thinner, sicker, more nervous or electrohypersensitive)
2) Normal (Average Person)
3) Medium and Brisk (Above average health)
4) High and Fast (High if younger, athletic, larger frame, and healthy)
5) Choose your own Mat Ride Adventure - get creative and have fun, but always listen to your body
GOAL: Reach therapeutic slew rates (10-120 T/s) for at least 30 minutes, 1-2x a day (ideally 2x a day).
Basically, the low-and-slow approach is to gradually increase the intensity and duration of PEMF over the course of a month. If the device has say only 5 intensity levels, you gradually increase the intensity and time "stepping up" or "laddering up" from the lowest to highest intensity (and the time from 5 to 60 minutes) over the course of a month. It's like climbing stairs or a ladder: you slowly increase intensity and time over the course of a month, up to the maximum slew rate/intensity for 60 minutes a day (30 min 2x a day).
For a normal or above-average healthy person, you can go at a medium or brisk pace, and you can increase ("step up" or "ladder up") the time and intensity over the course of a week to 10 days. This is usually fine for most people, but always listen to your body! Finally, the high-and-fast approach is to start low on the first day, medium on the second, and higher on the third, allowing a couple of days to acclimate. The idea is to start at 5-10 minutes and gradually increase to 30 minutes twice a day, while concurrently increasing the intensity from lowest to highest over varying periods, depending on your age, health level, and sensitivity.
But ultimately, everyone is different, listen to your body and adjust accordingly. Note: These recommendations apply to full-body mat sessions. Most people are fine going hard and fast with the localized applicators, especially on the arms, legs, lower back, and hips. But always listen to your body, and if you are sensitive, proceed with caution and go low and slow, even with local applicators. Also note that some people cannot go to the highest intensity/slew rate. Listen to your body, and if you need to keep it at a lower intensity or for a shorter time, definitely do so. These are not hard-and-fast rules, just basic guidelines that work for most people.
Sensitive people to go low and slow:
1. Fibromyalgia
2. Chronic Fatigue
3. Allergies
4. Chemical Sensitivities
5. Electrohypersensitive
6. Elderly, sick, or weakened state
7. Low Blood Pressure

30 minutes 2x a day is the goal: Whether you go low and slow, medium and brisk or high and fast, the goal is to eventually get to 30 minutes on the full body mat at the maximum therapeutic slew rate 1-2x a day, ideally twice a day. On the unit I personally use and recommend, the highest-intensity setting on the full-body mat has a slew rate of 25 T/s at the surface, which is right in the sweet spot of the 19 slew rate studies we looked at in the first chapter.
Why 30 minutes? Good research shows that optimal anti-inflammatory effects in cells occur at 30 minutes of exposure[1]. So, with both the full-body mat and local application, make sure to get at least 30 minutes in one session. With the full-body mat, I recommend only 30 minutes 2x a day, but the local applicators you can use for much longer, especially with acute pain or injuries. The full-body mat is more potent because you treat the whole body at once, so it is easier to overdo full-body treatments (i.e., healing crisis) than localized application. I rarely see any healing crisis or reactions with the local applicators, even when used for many hours (unless in the head and heart areas, which can be more sensitive). But arms, legs, hands, feet, low back, and hips: almost everyone can do longer sessions on the highest setting (on a medium-intensity system, not a high-intensity one).
Why use 2x a day? While there are other options, the best two times to do full-body mat session are morning and night. Doing it in the morning wakes your body up and energizes you for the day, and doing it at night before bed shakes off the stress and helps with any aches and pains that may have accrued throughout the day.
[1] The role of adenosine receptors and adenosine in modifying inflammation is well accepted, as we saw in Chapter 12 [1]. The anti-inflammatory effect of PEMF has been shown in high-quality research to be time- and intensity-dependent. PEMF dose-response studies found that a PEMF effect was detectable after 30 minutes of exposure, and the adenosine receptors became saturated with a 1.5 mT magnetic field, which is a medium intensity [2]. Because inflammation underlies not only pain but nearly all diseases, this research makes a strong case for doing 30-minute sessions to maximize the anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and healing benefits that medium-intensity PEMF offers!

What about frequency? Frequency on your PEMF "mat ride" is secondary, but it is still important: it has brain-entrainment effects and contributes to the overall dose. While we addressed both of these points in chapter 7, as a brief review, we do want the frequency of the full-body mat sessions to be synchronized with the time of day or the desired brain state. Use higher (beta) frequencies 15-30 Hz in the morning or when you want to be alert, energized, and creative. Use relaxing (alpha) frequencies, 7-12 Hz, when you want to feel more balanced and relaxed. And use sleepy frequencies (theta/delta) 1-5 Hz, when you want to go to sleep. Regarding dosage, twice the frequency corresponds to twice the number of PEMF pulses per second, which means twice the energy or EMF[1]. Now, usually when we want beta frequencies, we also want more energy (and vice versa with sleep), so everything is automatically taken care of by focusing on the brain entrainment effects.
What about the frequency of the local applicators? I tell people when in doubt, use 10 Hz, as the 10 Hz square wave is one of the most researched PEMF signals. Plus 10 Hz is also a natural geomagnetic frequency of the Earth. But I have also found good results with higher frequencies (15-35 Hz).
Schumann Frequencies - something to try: My favorite frequencies to use, along with 10 Hz, are the Schumann resonance frequencies. Even though frequency is secondary to slew rate, I like to use Schumann frequencies on both the full-body mat and local applicators. My reasoning is that we have evolved for millions of years with these frequencies, so it makes sense to me that they are most natural to the body. With the device I recommend, you can program the first five harmonics of the Schumann frequencies exactly: 7.83 Hz, 14.07 Hz, 20.25 Hz, 26.41 Hz, and 32.45 Hz[2]. I use the 7.83 for a more relaxing effect, but I also like the higher Schumann frequencies for energy on the full body mat and for pain relief on the localized applicator loops.
[1] Recall from Chapter 7 that D = R× t × EMF, where D= dose, R = repetition rate (pulses per second), and t = treatment duration (seconds), and EMF or electromotive force comes from the slew rate. So from this, you can see you can get more energy by either increasing the repetition rate, OR increasing the time, OR increasing the slew rate (or any combination of the three).
[2] Because the Schumann Resonance values can vary with solar flares and other atmospheric events, they are sometimes listed as 7.83, 14, 20, 26, and 33. They also go higher at around 39, 45, and 59, but the higher harmonics are likely too stimulating to use in a full-body mat session, being that they correspond to high gamma brainwaves.

Be consistent and use it daily: While it is important to use the full body mat 1-2 times a day for 30 minutes plus adding the localized applicators as needed, if you are not consistent over the course of weeks and perhaps even a few months, the results may not be what you hoped for. I am always telling people that one of the most important tips is to be consistent and use PEMF daily. There is a momentum of energy healing that happens with daily, consistent use. Because results can sometimes take 3-6 months with more serious issues, it is important to have this mindset.
While there are certain things that people feel right away, like more energy, pain relief, and better sleep, any serious injury or deep-seated issue can and usually does take longer. There is a rule of thumb in natural healing that for every year you have had a problem, allow that many months of natural healing to reverse it. While this is by no means exact, it does put things in perspective. For example, if you have had a chronic issue for 5 years, try to have a 3-6 month mindset of consistent use before you judge whether PEMF works or not. The biggest problem I see is that people are not consistent and give up when they don't see results in the first few weeks. This is sad for me because I have seen some real healing miracles that have taken time.
Let me share a testimonial I just received. A lady named Wing Lee purchased the high-slew-rate device that I now recommend. She had bad neuropathy in her feet and had extreme difficulty walking, if at all. It was so bad that her feet were blueish and hypoxic, and if things continued to progress, she might have lost her feet. For me, she is the perfect client because she was dedicated to using it daily, no matter how long it took. After using PEMF daily for 15 weeks (close to 4 months), the color returned to her feet, the pain subsided, and she can walk much more easily now. She told me that PEMF has saved her feet, and she has referred many people to me because of her life-transforming testimonial. But it is important to note that it took almost 4 months of consistent daily use (she missed no days). I truly feel that if everyone were as dedicated to using PEMF daily as Wing Lee is, I would have a lot more testimonials than I do (and I have collected over 500 testimonials in the past 18 years). I would say once you have a good PEMF device, the most important key to success is consistency!
Another important point is that you want to use the PEMF local applicators for twice as long as it takes for the symptoms to resolve (in addition to the daily full-body mat treatments). For example, if someone injures their knee and the pain and symptoms may go away in a month, but you want to continue using the PEMF local applicator(s) on the knee for an additional month. To stay on track, create a PEMF diary with a daily checklist (see end of chapter for an example). Really try to use PEMF daily for at least 3-6 months before assessing whether it is working.
Summary of Main Protocols for PEMF
1) Make sure to do your daily Mat Ride (full body mat).
2) Use the 1-2 punch of full body mat + local applications to knock out pain
and disease.
3) Start low and slow if you are sensitive.
4) Work up to 30 minutes 1-2x a day with the full body mat.
5) Use the right frequency or fast start programs to match desired effect (energy, balance or sleep).
6) Be consistent and use PEMF daily.
In addition to these core protocols, try implementing some of the healing tips below to further improve your results. The most important of these is staying well hydrated, drinking a glass of water before each session, and adding electrolytes. This is by far the most important extra tip for getting the most out of PEMF.

Troubleshooting Checklist When PEMF Doesn't Seem to Work
While PEMF helps almost everyone I have worked with, it does not work for everyone and every condition. It is not a miracle pill or a cure-all. However, much of the time, I have found that by troubleshooting exactly what the clients were doing, I could hone in on the problem(s). If you are not getting the results you hoped for with PEMF, here are some considerations to diagnose the potential issue. Always keep in mind that everybody is different, and that many variables contribute to how fast and well a PEMF device will work. Also, read the contraindications and precautions in Appendix C so you know ahead of time which conditions PEMF does not work for and which might present challenges.
The first and most obvious reason people don't get the results they hoped for with PEMF is that they invested in the wrong tool for the job, like a cheap, ineffective, poorly designed, overpowered, or underpowered PEMF device. Usually, you get what you pay for, and the main purpose of this buyers' guide is to arm people with the knowledge they need to purchase the best PEMF device based on physics, science, research, and my 18 years of experience owning, using, and testing over 40 PEMF devices. By far the biggest culprit for people not benefiting from PEMF is these cheap Chinese gemstone mats. They are flooding the market and giving the whole industry a bad name. Refer to the chapter that discusses all the reasons NOT to buy these devices. Another culprit is people getting overpowered devices that are just too intense. While some people certainly benefit from these devices, research clearly shows that high-intensity does not heal many conditions as well as medium- and even low-intensity. Related to this are other PEMF devices that have the potential to be good, but they drop the ball with coils that are too small, which leads to poor penetration into the body, or they have coils with too much "dead space" in between the coils, which ends up not covering the whole body very well. Additionally, faulty electronics, due to poor engineering, can result in higher electrosmog levels, as we explored in Chapters 8 and 9. Finally, when it comes to getting the wrong PEMF device, people buy "localized only" PEMF devices again, with no full-body mat option, so they miss out on a full-body PEMF "mat ride".
Also, I have seen with what are good low intensity PEMF devices, that someone is using a mat that simply is broken or isn't working, usually a broken cable or wire. With medium- and high-intensity pulse-driven systems, you can HEAR the electromagnetic discharges as a soothing clicking/ticking noise, but with low-intensity devices, you really need to check with a magnetic field tester app, a device, or even a tri-field meter set to the "mag" setting. Clearly, if the unit isn't working, you won't experience the benefits.
Now, if you have a good high-slew-rate device that is working properly, the first issue I see is people are not doing long enough sessions. Remember, the target is 30 minutes per session to optimally shut off inflammation. So if you want clinically validated results, shoot for 30 minutes 1-2x a day on the full body mat and AT LEAST another 30 minutes 1-2x a day on the local applicators (as needed). You can make PEMF fun and easy by combining it with watching TV, reading a book, taking a nap, or listening to music. Along with not doing long enough sessions, many people are very inconsistent in their usage. A certain healing momentum can take place if you commit to using PEMF for at least 30 minutes daily.
Besides not doing long enough sessions, people sometimes stop using PEMF localized applicators once the symptoms go away. But just because the body is symptom-free, it doesn't mean the issue is completely healed. For example, if you badly sprain and strain your knee playing pickleball (which I have). Perhaps PEMF helps you be pain-free in a couple of days. But this does not mean your knee is completely healed, even if it is symptom-free. What can happen is that if you try to play again too soon, you can re-injure, in this case, the knee. The rule of thumb is this: Do PEMF for twice as long as you are symptom-free. For example, if you sprain your knee and using a full body plus local application of PEMF takes the pain away in three days, do PEMF ANOTHER 3 days with the same intensive protocol - don't let up! Related to this, sometimes people do not use PEMF quickly enough after an injury. I have found over the years, working with hundreds of people and using PEMF on myself, that the sooner you can use PEMF after an injury, the faster it will heal (and research supports this conclusion). It's like you can put out the fires of inflammation right away if you start soon. This is one OF MANY reasons why you want to have your own PEMF device at home! Of course, if it is serious, check with your doctor, but for minor sprains, strains, aches, and pains, PEMF - at least for me - replaces all pain medication. I have not taken so much as an aspirin in over 10 years!
Another very common problem I see is impatience. Often, people complain that PEMF stops working after a week or two of use. While most people do feel some kind of benefit early on, advanced illnesses or serious injuries can take time. Chronic conditions take longer to heal than acute conditions. Different tissues heal and regenerate at different rates. PEMF is not a magic pill; it works with the body’s natural healing processes. For some minor issues and aches and pains, many times PEMF can work even the first day, but for deep-seated problems and chronic illnesses, I usually tell people to get into a 3-6 month mindset. Some conditions are so advanced that PEMF can't come to the rescue, though I always tell people to have hope, for PEMF is the best thing I know of in all of natural healing. Having said that, PEMF cannot resurrect the dead, like tissues that are dead, bone-on-bone joints, and end-of-life hospice patients. Still, if I were in those dire situations, I would personally still use PEMF because I know it will help improve the quality of whatever life is left.
Another potential issue is when people either go too high and fast, or not high enough in intensity (or slew rate). Depending on your age, size, level of health, disease or issue (and its severity), and whether the issue is chronic or acute, will determine how fast or slow you need to proceed.
Besides not using the right time and intensity, over the years, I have also seen many people use the wrong frequency, usually too high, on the full-body mat close to bedtime (along with an intensity that is too high). Doing this can be way too stimulating. I know because I have done this myself on more than one occasion, and while I have a lot of energy and feel I can clean the house, I would remain wide awake and unable to sleep. The easy fix is to make sure, in the evening, you use only lower-alpha, theta, and delta relaxing and sleep frequencies (< 10 Hz), along with lower intensities.
Finally, some people who have been using PEMF therapy for many months or even years question if it is still working. I tell these people to take a week or two off and start again, and they almost always notice the difference. As PEMF slowly heals and improves your overall health and vitality, you sometimes forget just how much better off you are than before you started.

Feeling is Not Healing - Even if You Feel Nothing, Something is Happening
While not everyone feels something, many do. The most common sensations noticed with a Mat ride are warmth, tingling, and/or a pronounced relaxation. With the mat, do not be disappointed if you feel nothing, as research shows that only about 15% of people can sense magnetic fields[1] [4]. But it is incorrect to assume that if you do not feel it, then nothing is happening [4]. Even if you feel nothing, the mat is still having its effect -- this is the nature of the pure magnetic energy that the mat produces. Even those who feel nothing from the mat will, with consistent use (at least 1-2x per day), notice over time the beneficial effects the mat is having on their bodies. If someone doesn't feel anything while lying on a PEMF mat, it just means the magnetic field is working without any outward signs. Personally, I can feel the energy of low- and especially medium-intensity PEMF even on the mat. Usually, I feel it as tingling, subtle energy flows, warmth, and a relaxation of body (muscles) and mind. Regardless of whether you feel the magnetic field or not during your session, the following benefits usually manifest within an hour (or hours) after using the mat:
[1] Excluding high intensity devices that induce such powerful electric fields that your muscles twitch or fasciculate. See chapters 2 and 6.

Healing Crisis and Feeling Discomfort After a Session
I have worked with well over four thousand people one-on-one with PEMF over the last 18 years. An occurrence that happens from time to time is a phenomenon known as a healing crisis. Personally, I have observed it manifest with flu-like symptoms, including temporary worsening of pain, tiredness and lethargy, headaches, skin breakouts, diarrhea, a gassy stomach, bad breath, body odor, and more. Let me preface by saying that this usually does NOT happen for most healthy people, but it can. Usually, it happens more with chronically ill people. But I have never seen a low or medium-PEMF device hurt anyone; it only helps, even if you first have to detox.
A healing crisis, also known as a healing reaction, is a temporary worsening of symptoms that occurs when the body is healing itself by eliminating toxins. It occurs when the body “retraces” past injuries, wounds, infections, or other imbalances. While it might not seem it at the time, THIS IS A VERY GOOD THING!! It actually doesn’t usually happen, but in my experience, it happens more regularly with people who have chronic diseases, and their ability to remove toxins is impaired. That is, any detox protocol, including PEMF, will open up the cells and tissues, and toxins can potentially dump into the blood and lymph faster than their compromised biology can handle. This is why, with chronically ill people, I recommend starting off VERY low and slow!

Most people with unhealthy dietary and lifestyle habits (along with living on a polluted planet) have a toxic buildup from the food, water, air, drugs, etc. that they take into their bodies, which clogs the kidneys, liver/gallbladder, colon, lungs, blood vessels, and even cells at the cellular level. To create SPACE in your body to reverse aging and disease demands healing and detoxifying your body by taking these toxins, whatever they might be, from POINT A (INSIDE the body) to POINT B (OUTSIDE of the body). It really is that simple in principle, but painful in practice at times.
The problem is that for most people, they just want all the years of toxic accumulation to magically disappear with no symptoms or problems. I have NEWS for you - THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Hence, this is why so many people are sick in the U.S. People run around looking for a magic bullet, miracle cure, or pill to remove their SYMPTOMS, which are manifestations of toxic buildup of one form or another! I tell people there is no pill that will create a miniature black hole in your body that will magically suck and remove those toxins into another dimension. I wish that were possible, but moving from Point A to Point B means that all this toxicity has to be eliminated through the four main channels: the lungs, skin, bowels, and kidneys.

Keep Your Four Elimination Channels Open
Think about times you have so much energy that you just get inspired to CLEAN YOUR HOUSE and fix or repair all the things needing fixing. Don't you sometimes amaze yourself just how much you can accomplish when you feel energetic? If your energy is dragging, it is unlikely that the house will get cleaned and repaired. The same goes for your body.
PEMF Therapy and natural healing in general are like that in that they give the body more energy so it can "Clean House", repair, rebuild, and heal itself. That means your body has more energy to begin removing years and years of toxic buildup. This can be rough at times, but you need to trust that your body is healing itself. Depending how old you are (how many years of accumulation) and how well you have taken care of yourself, determines how much toxic and unhealthy "buildup" you have in your body. The more toxicity you have, the greater the healing reaction can be.
To help avoid or mitigate this healing crisis, go low and slow with PEMF by gradually increasing the time and intensity over the course of a month, as outlined above. Next, drink plenty of water, ideally pure and magnetized water with some quality minerals added. This will help flush toxins out of the kidneys. Also, saunas and skin brushing can help the skin to dump toxins (or playing any sports that make you sweat). Just make sure to take a cool shower right after, so you do not reabsorb the toxins. Also, make sure your bowels are moving twice a day, ideally, and if that is not happening, take a good bowel-stimulating supplement like Dr. Schultze's intestinal formula #1 (or #3 if you are sensitive). Finally, focus on deep breathing and/or do cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times a week. This is like "airing out" your house by opening all the doors and windows. Keeping these four elimination channels open will help you to avoid or minimize any healing reaction while doing PEMF.
I want to conclude this chapter by sharing my full list of the best natural healing strategies to use alongside PEMF therapy. The more of these you can incorporate into your lifestyle, the more you'll feel and experience a daily fountain-of-youth feeling!

PEMF Therapy Contraindications
The safety of PEMF treatments has been extensively studied, with exposure duration and intensity identified as primary factors for consideration. Research cited in this book also examines the safety of PEMF stimulation. Most studies, including those that do not report significant benefits, note minimal or no adverse effects. While PEMF therapy is often described as safe and effective within wellness modalities, it may not be appropriate for all conditions. This section outlines the contraindications and precautions for using PEMF therapy.
1) Pacemakers and Electronic Implants
The primary contraindication for using a PEMF device is the placement of an applicator over implanted electrical devices, including pacemakers, defibrillators, brain implants, and insulin/drug pumps. The magnetic field may disrupt or deactivate these devices. Exceptions exist for electronic implants classified as MR-conditional, as these are generally considered safe due to their compatibility with high-intensity MRI environments. If uncertainty remains, consult a healthcare professional. If using an insulin pump, or any electronic implant that can be removed or deactivated, you can use PEMF in those cases.
2) Pregnancy
The safety of PEMF therapy during pregnancy has not been established, although current evidence does not indicate harm. Due to insufficient safety data, most manufacturers advise against the therapeutic use of PEMFs during pregnancy. I also consider pregnancy a contraindication for PEMF therapy.
3) Organ Transplants
PEMF therapy is contraindicated for organ transplant recipients, as these individuals require immunosuppression to prevent organ rejection. There is a potential risk that PEMFs could stimulate the immune system and increase the likelihood of transplant rejection.
4) Graves' Disease and Hyperthyroidism
PEMF therapy should be used cautiously in individuals with active Graves’ disease or hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is characterized by excessive thyroid hormone production, leading to symptoms such as restlessness, hot flushes, palpitations, weight loss despite increased appetite, sleep disturbances, and fatigue. Since PEMFs may further stimulate thyroid hormone production, their use is not recommended in these conditions.
5) Major surgery, stitches, and active bleeding
During active bleeding, PEMF therapy reduces platelet aggregation, thereby inhibiting proper clot formation. Therefore, it is advisable to delay PEMF use following major surgery or when wounds are not fully healed. Although not a strict contraindication, excessive menstruation should be approached with caution to avoid increased blood loss. Similarly, individuals on blood-thinning medications should use PEMFs cautiously, as the therapy may enhance blood flow.

PEMF Therapy Precautions
Although PEMF is generally recognized as safe, certain precautions should be observed when using this therapy. While most risks are not severe, they should be anticipated, and users should remain vigilant regarding their potential occurrence.
1) Epilepsy
A substantial body of research has examined the use of PEMFs at various intensities and their association with seizures. Most evidence suggests that PEMFs are unlikely to induce seizures, even with high-intensity systems. Nevertheless, consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended as a precaution.
2) Severe Autoimmune Disorders
Precautions are necessary when introducing PEMFs to individuals with autoimmune disorders, especially in severe cases. It is advisable to begin with a low intensity and gradually increase both duration and intensity according to the patient's tolerance.
3) Active Infections
Active bacterial or viral infections should be managed with appropriate medical interventions, as PEMFs may not provide predictable or reliable benefits. After medical therapy has commenced, PEMFs may be considered as an adjunct in the management of infections.
4) Cancer
Cancer is not considered a contraindication for the use of PEMF. However, individuals who are significantly weakened by cancer therapies may be more susceptible to excessive PEMF stimulation. In such cases, it is recommended to start with low intensity and gradually increase as tolerated. Current evidence suggests that PEMFs may serve as a complementary and integrative approach in cancer management, alongside behavioral interventions, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications.
5) Psychoses
The use of PEMFs in individuals with psychoses should be managed exclusively by experienced professionals. Ongoing research is investigating high-intensity PEMF applications to the head in these conditions; however, outcomes may be unpredictable, including unexplained relapses. When combined with potent psychotropic medications, PEMFs may cause significant reductions in blood pressure and destabilize otherwise controlled patients.
6) Low Blood Pressure
Caution is advised for individuals with known low blood pressure or a predisposition to it, as well as those with severe or rapidly progressing hypertension. Sudden and significant decreases in blood pressure may occur, potentially resulting in vertigo or fainting. This reaction typically resolves within thirty minutes post-exposure, and adaptation generally begins after five sessions.

Magnetized Water
“Water is life's mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water"
―Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (Nobel Prize Winner)
While using PEMF daily for at least 30 minutes 1-2x a day is the most important tip I can give to people who are both healthy and sick, there is another secret I want to share that most people with a PEMF device don't take advantage of: PEMF-treated or magnetized water. I definitely noticed a boost in my energy and mental clarity (and overall mood) when I added magnetized water to my daily routine.
But are the results I am feeling just a placebo? Is there research to support the claim that magnetizing water is effective? The answer is a resounding YES, with hundreds of studies, a sampling we'll share here. I was actually a little surprised at the amount of research available on the subject. While the science of magnetizing water is somewhat controversial in mainstream science, the effects of magnetic field (MF) action are undeniable and have been known for at least 50-60 years [1]. Russian authors published many papers on magnetizing water in the 1960s and 1970s [2-10]. Interestingly, the first registered patent for a device to treat water magnetically dates back to 1945 in Belgium [11,12]. And even still, much earlier, Faunce and Cabell designed a PEMF-type device for water treatment in boilers as far back as 1890 [13]. However, it did not attract much attention and was soon forgotten. During the last 50-60 years, hundreds of papers have been published where the observed effects of magnetized water are reported on both laboratory conditions and practical applications in industry [14-16], agriculture [17-19], biology [20-22], and medicine [23-28].
So how exactly does magnetized water have such a wide range of applicability? Here, we will focus on magnetizing water for human health, but it will be insightful to see how it works in other applications to better understand its potential benefits for you and me. Before we focus on the benefits of magnetizing your water with your PEMF device, you may wonder if PEMF has the same effect as static magnets. The answer is yes, and there is evidence that it works even better. This is related to research indicating that the magnetic field gradient (change in magnetic field) is more significant than the field strength [30-32] in magnetizing water.
There are two sides to the health effects of magnetized water. The first side explains how to create magnetized water and its physical properties, which distinguish it from untreated regular water. The second side of magnetized water is its positive impact on your body's health. Let's start by explaining how to create magnetized water with your PEMF device, and then we'll examine its physical properties and what distinguishes it from typical bulk water.

How to Make Magnetized Water - Upgrading What You Drink!
It is very easy to magnetize your water with a good high-slew-rate PEMF device, and because it is the slew rate that dictates energy transfer, you'll notice better results with magnetized water if you get a high-slew-rate PEMF system. Magnetizing your water is very simple. Simply place good purified water on top of a PEMF applicator pad on the highest setting. I use medical-grade reverse osmosis with some vortexing and add a small amount of high-quality ionic minerals. I place this in a glass container and surround it with a high-slew-rate PEMF loop applicator. Usually, I set it to the Schumann resonance frequency of 7.83 at the highest intensity for 45 minutes to an hour, but sometimes I try different frequencies. Because research shows that the gradient (change in magnetic field) is more important than the intensity (though intensity is also important), you definitely want a high-slew-rate PEMF device to achieve maximum benefits from magnetizing your water [30-32]. The results are very tangible, and when you start using it, you'll notice the difference.
And you'll be happy to know that, because water has a memory, research has shown that magnetized water retains its healing properties for up to two days [33-40]. This is good news because you can energize a gallon at a time and know it will stay structured for up to 2 days. Personally, I magnetize my water daily every morning just to be sure.
Recipe for Using PEMFs to Magnetize Your Water
1) Ideally, use a high-slew-rate PEMF device, as research shows that the magnetic field gradient or change is more important than the intensity.
2) Get a glass gallon container.
3) Fill the container with pure water, like from quality reverse osmosis.
4) Add 10-20 drops of ionic minerals per gallon of water.
5) Place the gallon on top of a high-slew-rate PEMF mat or pad.
6) Use the highest intensity and choose a natural frequency like 7.83 Hz or 10 Hz.
7) Magnetize for an hour.
8) Drink and enjoy the benefits for up to 2 days!

The Four Main Properties of Magnetized Water That Help to Improve Your Health
Now that you know how to make it, what makes magnetized water different from regular, good-quality purified water? It turns out that when you apply magnetic fields to water, many physical properties are altered, especially in water that contains a high concentration of ionic minerals. While it is beyond the scope of this book to go over all the physical properties, one scientific paper identified sixteen properties of magnetized water that have been verified through good research[1].
Pertaining to health, four key benefits of magnetized water for human health (though you could include many more) are smaller clusters, lower surface tension, increased zeta potential, and the memory effect.
Because the goal is to better hydrate the body, organs, and cells with clean, energized water, the primary effect of magnetized water in helping to accomplish this is that it creates smaller water clusters. Magnetized water achieves this by forming smaller, more organized clusters of 5 to 6 H2O molecules, compared to the typical 30 to 40 molecules found in regular water. This water is also more structurally and dynamically organized [38, 42-44]. This happens because magnetic fields weaken the hydrogen bonds between water molecules, which breaks water up into smaller clusters. What is interesting to me is that the bonds are strengthened WITHIN the smaller clusters, which helps to stabilize the micro-clustering [44]. Because lowered surface tension is related to weakened hydrogen bonds, especially at the water surface, this property overlaps with the micro-clustering effect. The net result is that water is "wetter" and more hydrating to the cells.
Also, magnetizing water with minerals increases what is called the zeta potential[2] of the water. This allows charged ions to remain in solution more effectively, thereby increasing both the charge and the conductivity of the water. This is also related to the micro-clustering effect, as smaller water clusters can better surround and keep minerals in solution. Along with micro-clustering and reduced surface tension, this increased zeta potential allows water to flow more easily, and minerals can be better dissolved with a larger volume of charge, effectively increasing the charge density of water and allowing the body to be electrified for health. Plus, the more charge water has, the more charge you give your body when you drink it.
Also, this micro-clustering/lower surface tension cleans the container, pipes, and vessels the water is in or flows through. Some earlier research on magnetized water focused on its cleansing effects, specifically for descaling pipes and tanks of various types. In your body, magnetized water helps to clean your arteries of plaque and buildup, as well as descale your kidneys, brain, and other organs.
The final major property of magnetized water is the memory effect [33-40]. There are several health benefits of the memory effect of water. The first is that the memory effect helps magnetized water keep its clustering up to 48 hours. This is very practical, because you only have to energize two days' worth of water. You don't have to energize each glass of water before you drink it. Another very interesting effect is that magnetic fields can help erase negative memories or fingerprints in water. For example, when you use reverse osmosis to purify your water, there is still a "memory" of all the impurities that were in the water before you purified it. While this is subtle and not particularly problematic, it is not ideal. It is nice to know that magnetizing your water helps to energetically purify the water of these "negative memories" just as quality Reverse Osmosis (RO) will physically purify it.

[2] Zeta potential is the measure of an electrical charge at the surface of a particle within a solution. More charge in the solution = more potential energy!

Water in Your Body
Now that we have seen some of the various physical properties of magnetized water, let's explore the many benefits that high-slew-rate PEMF-treated water has on your health in a very positive way.
Water is one of the simplest and most abundant molecules on the face of planet Earth. Interestingly, 70% of Earth's surface is water, and about 70% of our bodies are also water. Even more amazing is that over 99% of the molecules in your body are WATER. In fact, without water our bodies would be reduced to 9 pounds of dust. Think of cremated ash, we are not much without water, which is the very matrix of life itself. Most tissues in HEALTHY people are water-rich, containing 70-90% water. The two major exceptions to this are: Fat (10-15%) water, and Bone (20-25%).
Below are several key functions of this essential element.
• Water dissolves nutrients and transports them into cells.
• Water dissolves waste products and helps remove them through the kidneys and lungs.
• Water carries hormones and disease-fighting cells through the bloodstream.
• Water is essential for biochemical reactions in digestion and metabolism.
• Water is vital for energy production in the cells.
• Water assists in regulating body temperature.
• Water provides the moisture necessary for breathing.
• Water supports the transmission of nerve impulses and brain signals.
• Water supports healthy brain function, which influences emotional balance.
• Water cushions tissues and lubricates joints.
• Water supports healthy bowel function and helps relieve constipation.
• Water can promote a feeling of fullness.

Magnetized Water Makes Everything Work Better
By drinking micro-clustered magnetized water with a high zeta potential, you enhance all of these life-nurturing functions of water in the body listed above. Your circulation will improve, your cells will be better oxygenated[1], your joints will be better lubricated, your brain will function more efficiently, you'll experience improved digestion, and you'll experience more energy and vitality[2]. Of course, all this assumes that you stay well hydrated by drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of magnetized water.
To support this, let's examine how the physical properties of magnetized water contribute to its benefits. The micro-clustering effect and lowered surface tension help water penetrate organs, tissues, and cells more effectively. Not all consumed water is absorbed efficiently—regular water with larger clusters and higher surface tension can cause bloating and strain the kidneys. Cellular hydration is mediated by aquaporins, membrane proteins that facilitate the movement of water in and out of cells. Smaller water clusters, provided by magnetized water, pass through aquaporins more easily, promoting cellular hydration. Aquaporins regulate water flow in the kidneys, red blood cells, eye lens, and the brain. Lack of hydration or defects in aquaporins are linked to health conditions, including diabetes insipidus, cataracts, and impaired hearing.
The water naturally present in the human body is not just H₂O; rather, it is an electrolyte-rich mixture containing minerals, as well as various biochemical molecules (such as electrolytes, proteins, enzymes, etc.). In addition to serving as the medium for all chemical reactions in the body, this water exhibits bioelectrical properties, making the body an effective electrical conductor. Research indicates that PEMFs can alter the physical properties of water and other charged solutions, including all bodily fluids, which vary in electrolyte and charge content [29]. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that PEMFs directly affect body water, as they do in PEMF-treated water.
As we mentioned earlier, magnetizing water with minerals increases the zeta potential of the water. This allows charged ions to remain more stable in solution, thereby increasing both the charge and the conductivity of the water. By drinking magnetized water and using PEMF, you enhance your body's zeta potential. This means the water in your body has a higher charge density, allowing it to be electrified with health. Plus, the more charge water has, the more charge you give your body when you drink it. This works synergistically with PEMF. Increasing the conductivity of all the fluids in your body makes it easier for PEMF to induce healing microcurrents. It also makes it easier for the body's own natural bioelectrical healing currents to flow!
Electricity requires conductors, such as wires, to flow. Similarly, bioelectricity relies on electrolytes in solution with a sufficiently high zeta potential for optimal flow. PEMFs primarily influence the body through slew rate and Faraday's law, which function only in the presence of a conductor. The water in the human body contains electrolytes, proteins, fats, and starches, making it a good conductor of electricity because these components carry a charge. Organs with a higher water content generally exhibit greater electrical conductivity due to the presence of dissolved electrolytes. Fat or adipose tissue is the least conductive tissue in the body, and therefore may partially impede bioelectrical flows[3]. Reducing body fat could support more effective bioelectrical function.
The key takeaway is that PEMF's primary healing effect stems from the microcurrents it induces, which are more effective when the body is well-hydrated with small-cluster, energetic water and healthy electrolytes. When the body is more conductive, energy and bioelectricity flow more freely, enhancing the effects of PEMF. Therefore, maintaining good hydration, especially with magnetized water, is crucial for maximizing the healing benefits of PEMF.
[1] Magnetized water dissolves oxygen more effectively.
[2] Good cellular hydration is essential for the mitochondria to produce ATP.
[3] Interestingly, bioimpedance is a method that uses a low-level electrical current to measure body fat by estimating body composition. Fat tissue is a poor conductor of electricity, so it creates resistance, or impedance, which the device measures to calculate body fat percentage.

Treating Different Health Conditions with Magnetized Water
Magnetically treated water has been used for therapeutic purposes at a popular health resort for several years. Drinking magnetized water produced favorable results in patients with hypertension, gastrointestinal diseases, and skin conditions. General health improved, and decreased fatigue and improved sleep. They also studied the antibiotic effects of magnetized water on bacteria [45]. Even the growth of fungal spores is reduced by up to 83% when water is pretreated with magnetic fields [51, 52]. At the same health resort, a detailed analysis of the health of patients treated with and without magnetically treated water was conducted. Those receiving magnetically treated water showed decreased heart rate, improved cerebral blood vessel tone, and decreased systolic blood pressure [46].
Zeta Potential in the Blood
In human blood flow, zeta potential is the measure of the net negative electrical charge on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). A healthy, high zeta potential causes RBCs to repel each other, allowing them to flow smoothly and deliver oxygen efficiently. When the zeta potential is low, RBCs lose this repulsion, leading to aggregation and increased viscosity (called the Rouleaux Effect), which can cause circulatory problems and cardiovascular diseases. Magnetically treated water helps to increase the zeta potential on red blood cells. This helps the blood flow more easily and increases the surface area of RBCs, allowing oxygen to be better absorbed. And because magnetically treated water is also micro-clustered and has a low surface tension, this ALSO helps the blood to flow more easily, which reduces blood pressure and improves cardiovascular health.
Dissolving Kidney Stones and Reducing Calcification and Plaque (in the teeth and arteries): Because magnetically treated water lowers surface tension and increases zeta potential, it has a powerful cleansing ability to descale both storage tanks and your arteries and teeth of unwanted calcium plaques and buildup [48]. Additionally, unpublished reports suggest that, since the 1980s, Eastern Europeans and Chinese have found that magnetically treated water may help dissolve kidney stones and gallstones [47].

Dehydration - A Cause of Aging No One Talks About: Water is absolutely essential to the human body’s survival. A person can live for about a month without food, but only a few days without water. After oxygen, it is THE most essential element for life and good health! Therefore, to maintain good health, it is essential to stay hydrated, ideally with purified, magnetized water containing added minerals.
But some bodies are more hydrated than others. For example, newborns have a much higher water content than the elderly. Fit and muscular people have more water in their bodies than overweight people. Lean muscle tissue has a high water content (around 75%) and is very conductive, while fatty tissue has low water content (10–20%) and is far less conductive. Why is it that as we age, the average water content in our bodies decreases along with flexibility, youth, and vital bodily functions? What is it that displaces the water that is so vitally needed for the health of our cells? The answer is twofold as to why people shrivel and dry up like raisins as they get older. First, most people don't drink enough water, and worse, they drink the WRONG kind of water, namely, unpurified water with a high surface tension and low zeta potential. The second reason is that people are too toxic or overweight, with too much built-up sediment and too much water-deprived adipose or fat tissue.

Water and Dehydration - A Widespread Epidemic
The first problem is that many people do not consume enough water, with the average intake being about four glasses of plain water per day. This is insufficient for most adults. Beverages such as coffee, tea, sugary drinks, and alcohol do not count toward your daily water intake and may actually contribute to dehydration. While the common guideline is to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily, individual needs vary based on activity level and weather. The U.S. Institute of Medicine recommends that adult men consume 3.7 liters (about 1 gallon) and adult women 2.7 liters (about 3/4 gallon) of water per day. Alternatively, some suggest drinking an amount in ounces equal to your body weight in pounds. Inadequate hydration can lead to mild or severe dehydration, which over time may increase the risk of chronic diseases such as urinary tract infections, fractures, certain cancers, kidney and heart disease, lung disorders, cataracts, and reduced immune function.
You can assess your hydration by monitoring the frequency and color of your urine. Most healthy adults urinate about seven or eight times per day. Infrequent urination or dark yellow urine typically indicates dehydration, whereas well-hydrated individuals usually have urine that is very light yellow.

Most People Are Too Toxic and/or Overweight
The second reason people become increasingly dehydrated and age prematurely is that their bodies accumulate toxins, inorganic minerals, and excess fat, often due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Aging involves a gradual accumulation of minerals and toxins, leading to increased dehydration over time. This process is like a tea kettle slowly filling with scale and residue. Just as the kettle accumulates deposits, our bodies accumulate inorganic minerals, toxins, and fat, leading to complications such as hardened arteries, gallstones, kidney stones, brain ossification, mucoid plaque in the colon, and joint stiffness. These effects are made worse by consuming unhealthy foods and drinks.
The accumulation of minerals and toxins is similar to the scaling that builds up inside a tea kettle. As these substances gather in the body, there is less room for pure water, just as scaling in a kettle reduces its capacity. This helps explain why the water content in an adult or elderly person’s body decreases over time: while infants have up to 90% water at birth, elderly individuals may have as little as 50% water by the end of their lives.

PEMF + Magnetized Water = The Fountain of Youth?
While the fountain of youth is a myth and aging is an inevitable process, there are many things we can do to slow it and live a higher-quality life. Keeping the body well-hydrated with pure and magnetized water is certainly one very important strategy I can share with you, especially when done in conjunction with daily full-body mat PEMF therapy and the 26 tips at the end of chapter 13. PEMF therapy and good hydration, especially with clean and magnetized water, are the two best strategies I know to help you fight the effects of time!

PEMF therapy and good hydration, especially with clean and magnetized water, are the two best strategies I know to help you fight the effects of time!
My Fountain of Youth Tips to Slow Down the Aging Process and Live a Super Energetic and Healthy Life!
- PEMF: Use a high-slew-rate full-body mat for daily therapy for at least 30 minutes. Use local applicators as needed. Helps to make everything else work better.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink a glass of water before your PEMF mat ride, ideally 15 minutes before a session. This is CRITICAL for success! Drinking magnetized water is even better (see section below on magnetized water). Also, throughout the day, stay hydrated by drinking at least half your body weight in ounces. Because being hydrated increases the conductivity of biological tissue, PEMF will induce more healing microcurrents when you drink plenty of water.
- Magnetize Your Water with Your PEMF device: PEMF therapy works better when you are hydrated, and it works even better when you are hydrated with magnetized water. See Appendix A for the directions and benefits of magnetized water.
- Mineralize: Take an Electrolyte Drink and/or a Multivitamin or Supplement (this further increases conductivity, allowing healing microcurrents to flow more effectively). Minerals have a charge and help restore your body's electrolytes to healthy levels, along with good hydration and PEMF to induce more healing microcurrents. Add ionic liquid minerals to your magnetized water to turbo boost the benefits of PEMF. I like Quinton minerals, but there are other good options as well.
- Breathe: Practice deep breathing if possible while lying on the mat. This will help oxygenate and energize your body to the max! Breathe deep through your nose, as it filters the air, kills infections with Nitric oxide, and more! Also, use a good air purifier, and if you smoke, STOP SMOKING.
- Whole Food Diet: Alkalize the body. Try fresh lemon in water in the morning. Eat an Alkaline, Anti-inflammatory Diet. Avoid sugar, refined carbohydrates, fried foods, processed foods, fast foods, and soft drinks. Stick to organic, non-GMO whole foods: fruits (especially berries), dark green veggies, a big salad at least once a day, steamed veggies, whole grains, beans and legumes, soups, and small amounts of chicken, turkey, grass-fed beef, eggs, and dairy (in moderation). There is no need to be fanatical; listen to your body and eat only when hungry. Get in touch with true hunger.
- Supplements: Other supplements that help with pain, swelling, and inflammation, such as systemic enzymes, turmeric, ginger, boswellia (and other anti-inflammatory herbs), bromelain, omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin, resveratrol, Vitamin C, MSM, vitamin D, and magnesium.
- Detox: Take binders to support detox (chlorophyll, apple pectin, zeolites, activated charcoal, etc.).
- Heal Your Gut: Take a good probiotic and prebiotic. Your gut is a major layer of the immune system.
- Regularity: Make sure your bowels are moving at least 2x a day. Take probiotics and, if necessary, herbs that help to stimulate peristalsis. I like Dr. Schultze's intestinal formula #1.
- Lymphosize: Move your lymph with a daily skin brush and rebounding (or whole body vibration).
- Relax: Stay relaxed and manage stress. Stay positive! Fear weakens the immune system; be positive and use the power of a placebo.
- Laugh: Smile and laugh more -- laughter increases endorphins and helps your body to heal. Research by Dr. Fry at Stanford and others has shown that laughter significantly boosts immunity.
- Heliotherapy: Take a sunbath 2-3 times a week for 15-30 minutes, depending on the time of day and your skin type. Heliotherapy elevates your mood, increases vitamin D and immunity, increases circulation, lowers blood pressure, and so much more. UV light kills bacteria and viruses, too!
- Master Light: Full Spectrum Light in Day / Low Blue Light at Night
- Get Rid of Electrosmog (in your home and workspace): See my guide to removing electrosmog in your house in Chapter 8.
- Red Light Therapy: Invest in a good full-body red light therapy bed or panel (check out spectraredlight.com for a device I helped to design). Also see my book on red light therapy at www.redlightbook.net.
- Sweat More: Use sauna therapy 1-3 times a week for 30 minutes. Get in the sauna at 100-105 degrees F, then let it warm up to 135-155 degrees. Also, find exercises that make you sweat. Make sure to take a cool shower afterward to avoid reabsorbing toxins.
- Chill Out: Take a daily cold plunge.
- Earthing: Walk Barefoot Daily if Possible. Tap into the earth's natural microcurrents, which have a wonderful energizing, relaxing, and grounding effect, connecting you to planet Earth. Also, walking barefoot helps with inflammation.
- Move Your Body: Exercise - Make it strong again! Walking more, Strength Training, etc.
- Take Up a Racket Sport: Tennis, Pickleball, Badminton, Padel, Racquetball, and other racket sports add up to 9.7 years to your life according to the Copenhagen City Heart Study (CCHS) [3].
- Good Posture/Spinal Health: To improve posture, use a sit-stand desk, lie on your stomach more when watching TV or reading, use a kneeling chair, and interrupt sitting by taking many short walks! I recommend chiropractors associated with www.idealspine.com because they will help with correct posture and lifestyle changes in addition to good adjustments and basic chiropractic care. Blair Upper Cervical was a godsend for me when I had neck issues.
- Sleep: Get plenty of rest. Set a regular sleep schedule and aim for 6-1/2 to 7 hours of sleep. Your body heals and repairs in sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, PEMF can help.
- Meditation and Prayer: Meditate and Pray daily, as your faith dictates. Meditation and prayer are not only good for your soul, but they're also healthy for your body!!
- Synergize: PEMF makes everything else work better. It is the ultimate synergist.
